International Gullah Geechee and African Diaspora Conference

IGGAD 2024 Speaking with an Unbroken Tongue February 22-24, 2024

Coastal Carolina University and the Joyner Institute for Gullah and African Diaspora Studies invite you to register for our 4th Annual IGGAD Conference and Gullah Geechee Community Day celebration, scheduled for February 22 - 24, 2024.

Our theme, Speaking with an Unbroken Tongue: Exploring and Celebrating the Language and Culture of Gullah Geechee People and the African Diaspora, will focus on oral Gullah Geechee language traditions as well as the cultural ways we communicate, the language of music, art, and fashion, and the language of resistance are some of the topics we will explore.  

 

Preliminary Schedule

Thursday (Feb. 22): Atlantic Beach, South Carolina (registration required)
Friday (Feb. 23): Coastal Carolina University--Conway, SC (registration required)
Saturday (Feb. 24): Community Day in Historic Downtown Conway, SC (free and open to the public)
